Contact Lenses: Welcome

CONTACT LENSES TO SUIT YOUR LIFESTYLE

Contact lens technology has improved enormously in recent years. Advances in lens materials mean that modern lenses are much more breathable and hydrated than ever before. That makes them healthier for your eyes as well as more comfortable to wear. Innovations in lens design also mean that even if you have astigmatism or need varifocals, you can still expect great vision from contact lenses.

Contact lens assessment
If you'd like to find out if you are suitable for contact lenses, simply book in for an assessment. This involves checking the health at the front of your eyes and the quality of your tears. We'll then discuss the best lens options for you and your lifestyle.

FREE Trial lenses
Before committing yourself, you'll be able to take some free trial lenses home with you. That gives an opportunity to see how well you get on with them for everyday activities. And don't worry, we'll make sure you're comfortable handling the lenses before you leave our practice.

TYPES OF CONTACT LENSES

DAILY DISPOSABLES

Daily disposable lenses offer the ultimate in health and convenience. Simply wear them once, then throw them away with no cleaning or disinfecting required. That means you're putting a fresh, clean lens on your eye every time you wear them. As well as being a great option for general use, daily disposables are ideal for playing sports and wearing for nights out and other special events.

MONTHLY DISPOSABLES

Monthly disposable lenses are cleaned and disinfected after each use. They are replaced every month, before too many surface deposits build up on them. If you'd prefer a more frequent replacement schedule, fortnightly disposables are also available.

TORIC LENSES FOR ASTIGMATISM

Toric lenses are specially designed to correct astigmatism. Astigmatism is caused by an irregular curvature of the cornea at the front of the eye. That means your eye is shaped more like a rugby ball than a football. Whereas older toric lenses often gave variable vision, modern designs are much more stable. Toric lenses are available as both daily or monthly disposables.

VARIFOCAL CONTACT LENSES

Most people when they reach their mid-40's develop problems focussing close-up, such as when reading or looking at their phone or computer screen. Varifocal contact lenses work in a similar way to varifocal spectacles by allowing you to see clearly at distance, near and all points in between. Varifocal contacts are available in both daily and monthly disposable designs.

GAS PERMEABLE LENSES

Since the advent of newer silicon-based soft materials, gas permeable lenses have gone out of fashion somewhat. Being a harder material, they do take longer to get used to. However, for some more complicated prescriptions - particularly higher levels of astigmatism - gas permeables can still offer the benefit of sharper, more stable vision.

SYNERGEYES HYBRID LENSES

Synergeyes are new speciality contact lenses designed to combine the advantages of both soft and gas permeable materials. They are an excellent option for people with very high astigmatism or irregular corneas. Their advanced hybrid technology allows you to enjoy crisp gas permeable vision with soft lens comfort.

CHILDREN AND CONTACT LENSES

Contact lenses are a great option for active kids - particularly for sports like football, hockey, rugby and tennis. Compared to glasses, contacts are much safer on the sports field, as well as offering a wider and more natural field of vision.

Daily disposables, in particular, offer a healthy and convenient choice for kids.  And while parents often worry how their children will manage contact lenses, we find they tend to adapt quicker than most adults!

And remember, there is no age limit for children to try contact lenses - in fact, we often fit children as young as 7 or 8-years-old. And for children with short-sight, new MiSight daily disposables offer a safe and effective way to slow myopia progression.
