VDU Eye Care
At Eric Mercer’s, our VDU Eyecare Scheme offers convenience and cost-effectiveness to employers and employees alike.
Under Health & Safety regulations, employers are responsible for providing eye care to staff who regularly use a computer screen (VDU). This involves funding eye tests at regular intervals and providing spectacles if required specifically for VDU use.

VDU eye tests
We examine all VDU users according to recommended Association of Optometrists’ guidelines. This includes a full assessment of eye health as well as a test of vision. We will also take time to advise staff on how to use their VDUs more comfortably, avoiding eye strain and fatigue. Reports
We provide a full written report for each employee, outlining the results of their eye test and stating clearly whether spectacles are required specifically for VDU use. VDU spectacles
The majority of computer operators do not need a spectacle correction specifically for VDU use. However, for those that do, we offer a smart range of VDU spectacles at reasonable prices.
